Yesterday I did the SharePoint beta exam 77-886. The exam is primarily intended for power users, but as a Dev and ITPro consultant, I found the exam most useful. Now, the exam contains 87 questions and it is not the regular multiple choice ones. You will use a real SharePoint site and you have to click your way to the answer. E.g. the question could be: Allow content types to be added to the document library Documents. Then you have to navigate to the Documents library settings, Advanced settings and select Yes for Allow management of content types. And of course, there are more complex questions. Are there no multiple choice questions at all? No worries, there are about 15 multiple choice questions.
The questions you will get are in the categories :
- Creating and Formatting Content
- Managing SharePoint Sites
- Participating in User Communities
- Configuring and Consuming Site Search Results
- Integrating SharePoint 2010 Services and Microsoft Office 2010 applications
But I also got questions about configuring service applications and PerformancePoint Dashboards. Guess, you will have to know your way around there, too.
My score was 828 and I really enjoyed the exam. I took me over 2 hours to complete the exam. Some questions do not work properly, but hey… it’s beta. At the end you’ll have the opportunity to comment the exam.
This exam is available until June, 1st. For those who will take this exam, GOOD LUCK!
Update:
I get lots of questions about where to take this exam. Well, at first there was no test site here in the Netherlands, so my colleague Marc Molenaar (Big Thank You!) took the initiative to contact coordinator at CertiPort and also called some familiar test sites too, such as Centric Training and JSR. On his blog you will find more info about these contacts. Hopefully it may be useful for you as well.
Ho Octavie, I am interesting in give this exam, but I don´t found much information related, so I really value your comments, but, do you have a learning path or something that can be used like a training or review of the exam?
Thanks in advance, and any info could be really helpfull.
Regards,
Diego Alegre
Hey Diego,
Since this exam is intended for end users (or maybe Power users), I would recommend you find a SharePoint 2010 end user training nearby.
Another option is this online study material : http://office2010.microsoft.com/en-us/sharepoint-server-help/CH010372432.aspx
Book I would recommend for this exam: http://www.amazon.com/SharePoint-2010-All–Dummies-Computers/dp/0470587164/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&qid=1316002002&sr=8-8
Good luck!
Hi Octavie,
Do you link to sample papers for 77-886 exam ??
I want to practice tests to get hands on experiece ??
let me know
thanks,
mamta
Hi Mamta,
I’m not sure if there are practice tests like we used to know. This exam is not quite a multiple choice exam, but merely a active click and type questions in a simulated SharePoint site. The exam is not that hard, so trust your experience. Be confident…
Good luck,
Octavie
Hi Octavie,
Is this exam still valid? I am not sure why you said this exam till Valid until June? Please reply thanks
Regards
Usman
Hi Usman,
Yes, this exam is still valid. At the time (May 2011) the exam was in the beta stage. And therefore I said the exam was valid until June 1st. Since then, the exam has become official, but Microsoft has used the same exam number 77-886. For more information about this exam and where to take it, read this page: http://www.microsoft.com/learning/en/us/exam.aspx?id=77-886
